Food for Dreams • Does eating cheese or chocolate before bedtime give you nightmares? Can junk food or any foods make your dreams crazier or more bizarre?

Sleep and Dreams • Why do we spend about a third of our life asleep? Sleep must be pretty important. Without it, we hallucinate, and eventually die! And yet, we don’t know much about sleep or dreaming.

Are you sleep deprived? • We all know that sleep is important, but how can you tell if you’re getting enough?

WHAT’S THE SCIENCE?

SUMMER JOKE-A-THONBrilliant Brainz • We are holding the Brilliant Brainz Summer Joke-a-thon! You could win £50

DREAM MACHINE • In 1958, the artist Brion Gysin was sitting on a train having a snooze. As the train passed under trees and sunlight flickered across his closed eyelids, the rhythmic patterns of light sent him into an intense hypnagogic state (that feeling of hovering on the edge of sleep). Brion experienced a vision of kaleidoscopic colours whirling through space. As the train left the trees behind, his vision stopped immediately.

BRAINZ FOR CHANGE • Do you have a big dream, something you’d love to achieve ? Dreams are good for the soul and we all need a dream.
