McCall's Quilting

Fresh Picks

McQ&A • Because we talked about unusual fabrics in this issue, we asked the staff to tell us about the most unusual fabric or texture they’ve used in their quiltmaking.

CHRISTMAS FINERY • A pretty throw that’s just right for Christmas.

Dodi’s Starch Tips

ROARING TWENTIES • The cream print creates a secondary design.

Finishing Touch

CORDUROY CHRISTMAS • Texture abounds in this Christmas tree pillow.

CORDUROY: ADD TEXTURE TO YOUR NEXT PROJECT • Although not often associated with quilting, corduroy is making its way into the world of piecework. As with the recent arrival of linen, rayon, and cotton lawn, quilters are discovering the expanded design possibilities of integrating the textural qualities of corduroy into their projects.

CLIMBING STARS

BUBBLY • Everything old becomes new again.

SUGAR & SPICE • Add a bit of color with easy appliqué.

WINTER FLOWERS • Soft, wintery colors perfect for a snowy celebration.

More about the design

FIRST LIGHT • One large block makes this table topper sparkle.

A CRAZY QUILT OF MEMORIES • About 11 years ago my sister sent me the train from a wedding gown. It had “miles” of satin plus beautiful set-in pieces of lace, pearls, and sequins. She thought I could make a quilt from it. Knowing that quilts just aren’t made from that type of fabric, I put it away.

FOREST SKY • Pristine woods with stars glittering in the sky above.

MAGIC CUBE • Magic? Yes! This is string-pieced magic.

Making String-Pieced Fabric

Inspiration Achieved

JOLLY OLD SAINT NICHOLAS • Paper piecing makes such cute Santas.

CHRISTMAS CRITTERS • Sweet mug rugs for your holiday table.
